The Dairy Barn Arts Center is pleased to present two companion exhibitions that stretch the boundaries of two ancient, yet current art forms – the use of beads and fibers in ornamental and functional works of art. Though art made with beads, grasses or reeds are some of the oldest forms of ornament and function known to humankind, the artworks in these exciting exhibitions provide proof that beads and basketry continue to challenge and inspire contemporary artists from throughout the world.

The artwork and artists featured in our fourth biennial Bead Internationaland the first Basket Trends expand the definition of basketry and also create a dialogue between basketry and beadwork. The diverse works in these exhibitions are sure to make visitors redefine their conceptions of what beads and basket fibers can do beyond function and ornament. If Paleolithic men and women only knew what they had started!
